Coach AARON WITTER
Tell us a little bit about you, your background, education, and accolades.
To start my coaching journey, I received my L1 CrossFit cert back in 2018 in which I coached at a CrossFit gym in Victor for 4 years. I also received my L1 Burgener weightlifting cert in 2020, which is a huge passion of mine and enjoy teaching others and doing the Olympic lifts. In 2022 I obtained my personal training certification through international sports science assoc. (ISSA) to help round out my knowledge of movement and sport. This past fall, 2023, I went for my CrossFit L2 trainers cert. to gain knowledge as a coach and grow as an athlete.
A few things that I like to do in my spare time are hiking, hunting, and camping, I’ll travel around the state to check out different camping spots. You’ll see me on my triumph motorcycle when the weather is warm cruising around the finger lakes. Finally, I love Dogs and recently bought a Boxer Puppy named “Olive”. She is a handful and takes up A LOT of my time.
What brought you to NOVA Fitness?
At my old gym I didn't feel like I was being coached anymore or progressing along any modality to get better. I decided to try Nova to see what it was doing differently and what I might be missing. The coaching was superb and the movement standards were being upheld. I'm glad I made the move!
What has been your most memorable moment at NOVA Fitness so far?
Making it to crossfit quarter finals!! This has been a goal for years and it happen this year.
What is one way CrossFit has positively impacted your daily life?
I had become very unhealthy in my 30’s - I was constantly sick and tired and need a change in my life. After years of smoking and becoming 60 pounds overweight, I walked into my first CrossFit class in 2012 and was hooked! I remember A LOT of squats, barbell work and a 400 Meter run in the WOD. It left me breathless (literally), but I thought “WOW” I want more of this!
It’s been 12 years since, and I haven’t looked back. I’ve built countless friendships, received multiple certifications, and coached some awesome athletes.
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Don't get yourself on the wrong track by EGO lifting. Leave your EGO at the door! Focus on what you can do and do a little bit more each time than you did last time. Be patient with yourself and don't give up.
